In mission-driven environments, conflict or disagreements can create barriers to development and growth. As a mediator, she can work with organisations to provide independent expertise and a framework to allow participants to explore potential solutions to resolve issues in a confidential and safe environment.

Louisa’s experience

Louisa has spent her career working for social justice and improving the life chances of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

As Chief Executive Officer, Louisa has led a London children’s legal charity, Just for Kids Law, working with children and young people to provide legal advice and representation alongside youth advocacy for 18-25 year-olds with experience of leaving care, homelessness, school exclusion, irregular immigration status or criminal exploitation.

She was Director of Policy, Rights and Advocacy at Child Poverty Action Group, leading teams providing policy solutions and advice services for children and families living in poverty and economic disadvantage. She is proud to have played a role in building understanding of the causes of child poverty and shaping the UK Government’s child poverty strategy.

She has worked extensively in the UK justice system, advising on communications strategy for the newly-formed Ministry of Justice, as Head of Communications and Customer Services for HM Courts Service, as a member of the change team working to bring together the courts and tribunals into one service and as an adviser to the Secretariat of the Independent Monitoring Boards, monitoring compliance with human rights in prisons. Outside of her paid work she is a magistrate at an Inner London court.

As a consultant, she has also worked extensively in strategy, change and operational roles at the UK Department for Children, Schools and Families, CAFCASS, the Department of Health, the NHS, local government, the not-for-profit sector and the legal services sector. She believes in evidence-based policy-making and uses data to identify solutions. Having begun her career in public affairs and strategic communications, she is experienced in broadcasting and working with the media to create influence and change.

Louisa is an accredited mediator for civil & commercial and workplace & employment disputes with the Society of Mediators in the UK.

Ways of working

Louisa likes to work in a collaboratively way with senior leaders, trustees and the wider team where possible. She takes a strength-based approach and will usually review what is working well before identifying areas for improvement. Having identified a focus for a piece of work, she will work with you to develop potential solutions and ‘road test’ them with you to ensure they fit well with your organisation’s ethos/approach and are practical within the available resources.
